I'm a feature writer for the Observer, covering politics, culture, crime, sport and anything else that takes my interest. I plan to write irregular entries relating to these subjects, but I particularly want to draw attention to long-form journalism, the kind of thoughtful, keenly researched work that in the era of “content”is too often overlooked in favour of loud or provocative commentary. There is also selected a range of my own work under four distinct categories. I’m the author of On Penalties, an examination of the psychology and metaphysics of football, and The Fallout, a polemical memoir, named among the Times' political books of the year in 2007.
